Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)¶
NAFLD is characterized by the accumulation of excess fat in the liver not caused by alcohol use. It is closely associated with insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Elevated insulin promotes fat storage in the liver and prevents fat from being released, leading to steatosis. Studies show that low-carbohydrate and ketogenic diets can reduce liver fat content and improve insulin sensitivity, often outperforming low-fat diets.1
