Alzheimer's Disease¶
Some researchers refer to Alzheimer's disease as "type 3 diabetes" because insulin resistance appears to play a role in its development. Brain cells become less responsive to insulin, leading to impaired energy metabolism and accumulation of beta-amyloid plaques. Emerging evidence suggests that ketogenic diets, which provide ketones as an alternative fuel, may improve cognitive function in individuals with mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease.1
